Groove Phrase is a workshop devoted to one thing: creating. Creating machines, modules, tools — and creating with them.
At the start, there is a need, a personal urge: an idea to bring to life, a gesture to make simpler, a way into playing that you want to feel more direct. The result is a tool you don’t admire on a shelf — you use it, you understand it quickly, and it naturally becomes an extension of the hand. And if, along the way, it proves useful to others, even better.
Here, technique isn’t a trophy. It steps back behind the goal, staying as transparent as possible: making the object more obvious to use, more playable, more present under the hand — and above all, genuinely useful.

This site brings together ongoing projects, DIY builds, and focused presentations of synths and machines. There is also a shop, when certain projects become mature enough to leave the workshop and live a life of their own.
Behind Groove Phrase, there’s me, Laurent, and a quiet obsession with simplifying without thinning things out, until the tool does what it should, and makes you want to create again.
